A Volz actuator (= servo ) is an extremely compact, yet powerful drive unit with an outstanding weight/torque ratio, made to meet our customes' goals of minimizing weight, installation space and component costs whilst maximizing output, reliabity and durability.

The actuator consists of a DC motor, a reduction gear train, a microprocessor controlled pc-board (amplifier) and a position feedback device. It is an electro-mechanical drive unit which moves a radial output – internally linked to a feedback device (potentiometer, magnetic rotary encoder etc) – into a precise position.

Depending on the type of actuator used the total travel angle in a standard configuration can range between 90-170 degrees. Versions with wider angles up to 330 degrees or multiturn (3, 5 or 10 revolutions) can be provided on request.

In the standard configuration the actuator converts a TTL compatible Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) signal into a position reference, which in a control loop leads the output to the desired position. The feedback device provides the necessary information for a precise positioning.

Instead of PWM other interfaces such as RS-232, RS-422 or RS-485 can be implemented on request.

Due to the immediate availability of our Volz actuators our customers can realize new projects within shortest possible time and can start production immediately.

We can either offer OEM (COTS) made versions of our actuators or develop custom made solutions exactly meeting our customer’s requirements.
