AAM – Advanced Air Mobility, thought ahead and beyond

HOW VOLZ SERVOS HELP DEVELOP RELIABLE AIRCRAFT FOR THE FUTURE OF TRANSPORTATION

Air mobility for passengers and cargo currently mostly depends on airports – large national hubs or smaller regional destinations.

If you think transportation more small-scale and agile, it’s Advanced Air Mobility (AAM).

Aviation of small amounts of goods, single persons or small groups of people depends on smaller, specially designed air vehicles – drones come in mind, electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircrafts or optionally piloted vehicle (OPV).

AAM goes beyond urban air mobility (UAM) to include transport outside urban centers to improve accessibility and supply to remote locations.

Advanced Air Mobility

The NASA definition calls Advanced Air Mobility „an air transportation system that moves people and cargo between places previously not served or underserved by aviation – local, regional, intraregional, urban – using revolutionary new aircraft“.

What’s important:

The safety requirements and regulations for these new aircrafts correspond to those of regular planes, helicopters etc. So when it comes to choosing components during the development process of a new air vehicle, trusted, reliable and certifiable parts are crucial for ultimately also receiving the certification required for operation.

"With our subsidiary AEE, an EASA approved production (Part 21G), maintenance (Part 145) and alternative design organization (Part 21O), we are in the best position to meet our customers' needs – especially when it comes to certification, DO 178C, DO 254 and DO 160 requirements. Volz can take into account and comply with all regulations – so it's no wonder that a large number of companies active in this sector already rely on actuators from Volz Servos.“ Phillipp Volz, CEO Volz Servos

1. Tilting mechanisms

  • Rotor
  • Wings

Tilting the rotors or wings can be a key feature of an eVTOL to enable them to transition between vertical and horizontal flight and is therefore crucial for the safe operation of such a system. Volz Servos provides the reliable actuators to make sure you and your passengers come home safely.

2. Control surfaces

  • Aileron
  • Elevator
  • Rudder
  • Flaperons
  • High lift surfaces

With Volz Servos you can rely on all control surfaces immediately and precisely reacting to all steering commands. For safe AAM transportation in all areas.

3. Landing gear

  • Extension
  • Steering
  • Braking

AAM aircraft are designed to start and land on small runways and landing fields. The more important are extension, steering and braking gear you can absolutely rely on. That’s what Volz Servos provide.

4. Propeller control

  • Blade pitch

AAM aircraft may use propellers to accelerate but also for steering, take-off and landing (VTOL). Their complex control system requires perfectly fitting and reliable actuators allowing for precise and responsive control of the rotor blades, and enabling the aircraft to perform a wide range of tasks with great efficiency and safety. So Volz Servos safely get you in the right direction.

Why Volz Servos for your AAM?

First of all - matching YOUR needs

Our wide product range covers most cases of possible applications. Beyond that, we modify existing standard actuators or develop completely new customized solutions – as fast, flexible and agile as the aerial vehicles they are made for!

Competent consulting

Discuss your requirements with our experts and learn how Volz develops your customized servos – or what kind of servos we can offer off-the-shelf.

Certifiable

With Aircraft Electronic Engineering (AEE), Volz Servos acquired an EASA approved production (Part 21G), maintenance (Part 145), and alternative design organization (Part 21O). So Volz Servos meet the future requirements of the market for certifiable actuators!

Light-weight

Volz servos are electro-mechanical – waiving heavy hydraulic pump and its fluids save a lot of weight!

Trusted

With more than 40 years of experience in air mobility, Volz is best known as a leading manufacturer of electromechanical actuators for aerial vehicles.

Reliable and Redundant

Volz servos impress with their compact design combined with maximized actuating force, reliability and durability thanks to high-quality materials, technology and processing. The dual-channel design of the redundant Duplex servos enables continuous operation, even if one of the two channels should fail.

Guaranteed quality

Our actuators are manufactured in Germany under the strictest quality controls (ISO 9001:2015, EN 9100 under implementation) in order to guarantee the high demands on quality and functional safety.

Monitoring

Various electrical interfaces offer the possibility of monitoring the operating status of the servo, for example by reading out the current internal temperature, air humidity and more.
